Gautam Bhattacharya cremated today in Pune

NEW DELHI, MAY 09, 2016: GAUTAM BHATTACHARYA, Principal Commissioner, Service Tax, Pune, passed away on May 8 evening. He was undergoing treatment at Ruby Hall Clinic for the last two weeks after he had suffered a massive heart attack. He was IRS (Customs&C.Excise) officer of 1985 batch. He has left behind his wife, son and a daughter.

The last rites were performed today afternoon at Koregaon Park Crematorium where large number of officers and staff from Pune and Mumbai including Chief Commisioners Customs, Central Excise & Service Tax of Pune and Mumbai Zones were present to pay their last respects. Earlier his body was kept kept at Ashley house Guest house for paying the last respects by the members of staff.

Mr Bhattacharya as an IRS officer had an illustrious career spanning three decades. He was a pioneer in Service Tax law making and had worked as Joint Secretary, Tax Research Unit in Finance Ministry and had handled many union budgets and had also worked as Commissioner of Service Tax in Delhi among other charges.

His colleagues and officers across the country remember him as a most affectionate, humane and loving person.
