Time to stand up & crave for the good side of 1975 Emergency!

A bit of poison to gain immunity

I do not know whether this writer lived during emergency. If affirmative, hemay have forgotten his personal experiences due to efflux of four decades. It was a time when everyone tried to rat on everyone else. It brought the worst characters out of people. In Karnataka, under CM Devaraj UIrs, the effect of emergency was minimal and he shielded the public to a great extent from high handedness of the police and bureaucracy. But, even in such a place as Bangalore, in the law college, the lecturer of Jurispurdence stopped writing "JP" as an abbreviation for Jurisprudence, for fear that it might be misconstrued as secret admiration for Jaiprakash Narain. Emergency was imposed not to do good to India, but to save Indira Gandhi's power. During emergency, prices of essential commodities came down, but there was no increase in production. For the sake of running the trains on time, or to ensure that commuters stand in queue, one does not require imposition of emergency. The kind of freedom we enjoy now may bring chaos, but it nurtures creativity and encourages achievers. Emergency made zoombies out of Indians. Can the writer tell us what was the greatest or at least the most memorable economic or social achievement during those 19 months?
