Digital Transformation and Department of Indirect Taxes

*** Uwe Riss, Senior Researcher for Digital Business, Research & Innovation Hub St. Gallen, SAP, in an interview with SAP News has said “Digitizing has increased the efficiency of our processes; digitalization means that business now uses technology to engage with people to precisely address their particular needs.” Uwe Riss explains that it is digitalization that has the greatest potential to alter the way we live. “As a simple example, it can mean that an almost invisible technology helps us find the restaurant we like or the transportation we need, wherever we are and at any time – and at once.” “At SAP we’ve done digitization for many decades. Now we are on the way to digitalization.” (Source: Google Trends)

2. Thus, Digital India campaign launched by the Government of India has been a keystone in the edifice of Good Governance. However, the Department of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax has not been able to keep pace with this campaign. It is evident from the fact that there is no website of Gwalior Commissionerate of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax since its creation in the month of October, 2014. Thus, details about Postal address, Telephone Numbers, Fax numbers and email addresses of Hqrs Office and subordinate offices are not available on internet in respect of Gwalior Commissionerate even after a period of 1 year and 11 months. The list of officers nominated as Central Public Information Officers (CPIO) has not been revised or updated in the website of Indore Commissionerate of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax. Several officers of Indore Commissionerate have either retired or transferred elsewhere but their names still appear in this list.
